GREER, Mary E. "Bettie" (Catledge), RN Of Westwood, formerly of Needham and South Natick, and Grantham, NH, on June 15, 2016, age 93. Daughter of the late Clarence and Mary (Woods) Catledge. Beloved wife of the late Dr. William E. R. Greer. Loving mother of Dr. Beverly Greer of Westboro, MA, Scott Greer of Pittsburgh, PA, and Stuart and his wife, Barbara Greer of Westford, MA and step-mother of Dr. Peter Greer of Richmond, VA. Devoted sister of Joan (Catledge) Panella of Topsfield. Doting grandmother of Courtney Greer of Providence, RI and Katherine Greer of New York, NY and step-grandmother of Rebekah Gabor of Vienna, VA and Tucker Greer of Richmond, VA. Step-great grandmother of five, aunt of seven, great-aunt of eleven, and great-great-aunt of one. Cherished friend of too many to count. Bettie graduated from Malden Catholic High School and the Malden Hospital School of Nursing. Afterwards, she became an Operating Room Nurse at the Malden and Faulkner Hospitals. Bettie received her certificate from the US Army in Neuropsychiatric Nursing and was a World War II Veteran, serving with the US Army Nursing Corps in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater of Operations, where she met her late husband, Bill. She was a Member of Women in Military Service for America Memorial. A long-time volunteer for the American Red Cross, Bettie attended Simmons College and received her teaching certificate from the American Institute of Textile Arts in Textile Arts at Pine Manor College. She was an emeritus Member of the College Club of Boston, a proponent of the Arts and education, and gave her tireless commitment to sharing her hearing loss experience and education with others. Visiting hours in the Eaton Funeral Home, 1351 Highland Ave. NEEDHAM, on Monday, June 20th from 4-7PM. Funeral service at Christ Church Episcopal, 1132 Highland Ave, Needham, MA on Tuesday, June 21st at 10AM. Interment with Military Honors to follow at Needham Cemetery. Family and friends kindly are invited to attend.
