MAURICE B. STIEFEL Obituary
STIEFEL, Maurice B. Of Brookline, Massachusetts, formerly of New York, died on July 3, 2016. Beloved husband of Miriam (Michaels) Goldman, and the late Marcia (Loskove) Stiefel. Dear son of the late Maurice & Miriam (Clair) Stiefel. Devoted father of Judith, Susan, and Michael Stiefel. Loving stepfather of Fred, James, and William Goldman. Proud grandfather of Simon, Ruth, Madeline, Zachary, Eliza, and Nathan. Dear stepbrother of Eleanor Gesensway and Richard Horowitz. Maurice (Maurie) was born in Chicago in 1930. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a BS in chemical engineering. While working full time in the U.S. patent office, Maurie earned a JD with honors from George Washington University. He practiced intellectual property law for over forty years, founding his own firm which subsequently merged with Bryan Cave, where he was a senior partner. An avid reader, sailor, chess player, with strong interests in psychology and music, Maurie was active in retirement. He taught and took courses at HILR (Harvard Institute for Learning in Retirement), BOLLI (Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Brandeis), LLAIC (Lifelong Learners: An Independent Collaborative), and Regis College. He will be deeply missed by all who loved him. A celebration of his life will be held in the fall. Contributions in his memory can be made to , Amnesty International, or Death with Dignity.
