Muriel Crowninshield Obituary

87, recently of Middletown, RI, formerly a lifelong resident of her birthplace Marblehead, MA, died Saturday, June 8, 2002. She was the wife of the late William W. Crowninshield, a daughter of the late William and Frances (Surrette) Longton and niece of the late Charles and Maud Stevens. Mrs. Crowninshield graduated from Marblehead High School in 1933 and then spent the next year and a half studying nursing at Salem Hospital, Salem, MA. Much later at age 59 she completed courses at both North Shore Community College and Essex Agricultural Institute and was certified a medical assistant. She was an active member of St. Michael's Episcopal Church where she had been a member of the alter guild, parish aide and treasurer of St. Michael's Thrift Shop. Mrs. Crowninshield, a true "Header" and friend to all, enjoyed golfing, bowling, sailing, walking and was an avid gardener. She leaves two sons, Bowdoin B. Crowninshield II of Marblehead, MA and Capt. George W. Crowninshield and his wife Sue of Middletown, RI; a daughter Katherine L. Newman and her husband Stuart of Boxford, MA; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She was the sister of the late William Longton of Bar Harbor, ME and Marjorie MacDonald of Lynn, MA. A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, June 12, 2002 at one o'clock in St. Michael's Episcopal Church, 26 Pleasant St, Marblehead, MA. Burial will be in Waterside Cemetery, Marblehead. Remembrances in her memory may be made to Visiting Nurse Association of Marblehead, MA 01945.
