PATRICK J. KEOUGH III Obituary
KEOUGH, Patrick J. III (September 16, 1957-September 21, 2016), renowned horseman of Hamilton, Massachusetts, passed away suddenly of an apparent heart attack while doing what he loved, riding in the country. He leaves behind his beloved daughter Erin Brewer, her husband Chris, and his beautiful granddaughter Nora, born August 1. Patrick also leaves behind his partner, Karla Parnell, his brother and sister, Michael and Ann Keough, and his aunt, Lorraine Croteau. Patrick comes from a distinguished and long-standing family of equestrians. His grandfather founded Miles River Stables, which was later run by his parents, Patrick and Barbara Keough, and moved to the Myopia Hunt Club in 1963. Patrick succeeded the family business at Myopia until he established P.J. Keough Stables, where he taught adults and juniors riding and hunting and shared his love of the countryside, passion for horses and horsemanship, as well as the rich history—horse and human--of fox hunting, polo, show jumping, and racing. Patrick was devoted to the horse community and gave generously of his time and expertise. He was known for his entertaining hacks, knowing and ready smile, quick wit and pithy maxims. A gentleman, he had a unique sense of style and an unusual take on the concept of time. Patrick was a superb storyteller and loved to take people trail riding while regaling them with the history and background of the land and the events that had happened there over the years. Always there for anyone who needed him, Patrick would lend a hand without needing to be asked. As a longtime member of the Myopia Hunt, he did everything he could to support the hunt and to help spread the joy he felt in riding and hunting safely through the countryside. He often volunteered his time and expertise to help with the Children's Hunt and the Hunter Pace, and local horse shows. Patrick was a voracious reader and avid sports fan. Many of his conversations started with "my beloved Patriots". A tireless worker, Patrick's greatest loves were his family, friends, horses and dogs. He will be deeply missed. His funeral Mass will be celebrated at Church of St. Paul, Hamilton on Monday, October 3, 2016 at 9 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours at the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, BEVERLY, Saturday from 2 to 5 p.m. Burial in the Hamilton Cemetery. Information, directions, condolences at www.campbellfuneral.com.
