1928 - 2016 Obituary Condolences
PARSONS, Pauline (Globisch) "Polly" Of Chatham, MA died at the age of 88 on August 1, 2016, after a graceful and hard fought battle with cancer. Polly will be most fondly remembered for her devotion to her family and her love of the outdoors, music, travel and pug dogs. Polly was born on May 22, 1928 in Lancaster, PA, the younger daughter of Wilhelmina and Alfred Globisch. Polly's father was the longtime Physical Education Director of the Lancaster YMCA, and she grew up competing and teaching swimming. Polly and older sister Marilyn were national class swimmers competing in the 50 and 100 meter breast stroke. Polly graduated from McCaskey High School in Lancaster, PA in 1945 and received her BA in Physical Education from Pennsylvania State University in 1949 and her MA in Chemistry from Wellesley College in 1964. Polly taught Marine Biology at Boston State College and University of Massachusetts-Boston for two decades until she retired in 1984. She married William H. Parsons on November 25, 1948 and was married for 55 years, until his death in 2004. Polly and Bill raised their two sons in Havertown, PA, Needham, MA and Dover, MA. In 1984, Polly and Bill retired to their new home in East Harwich, MA. They were active members of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Harwich, where they were omnipresent members of the choir. Their love of music extended to other organizations, including the Chatham Chorale, and musical exchange programs with churches in Europe. After her husband's passing, Polly moved to Chatham where she lived the next 11 years. Polly leaves her son and daughter-in-law William J. Parsons, MD and Darlene N. of Raleigh, NC, and grandchildren Emily K. Hewitt and her husband Scott, Abigail C. Parsons, and William J. Parsons, Jr. Her beloved pug Samantha now lives with her son's family along with 3 other pugs. Polly also leaves her son and daughter-in-law Paul R. Parsons and Joan S. of Dover and Chatham, MA, and grandchildren Sarah P. Wolter and her husband Jon, and Tyler P. Parsons. A Service to celebrate Polly's life will be held on Friday, August 19, 2016 at 11 a.m. at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in East Harwich, MA, with a reception immediately following at the church. Interment will be private at Island Pond Cemetery in Harwich. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Peter's Lutheran Church of Harwich, MA or to the Wounded Warrior Project.
