RICHARD D. GOSS Obituary
GOSS, Richard D."Bud" 88, died unexpectedly in his home in Lynn, MA, on January 5, 2019. "Bud", a life-long resident of Lynn, was born in 1930, the son of the late William "Doug" and Eva "Blossom" Goss. He graduated from Lynn Classical High School in 1947 and enrolled at MIT, graduating in 1951. Following two years of Service in the U.S. Army, much of it in the war in Korea. He returned to MIT to acquire a Master's Degree in Aeronautical Engineering. For the rest of his career he worked in the Draper Laboratory in Cambridge, MA. He was involved in many projects at Draper Lab, including designing guidance systems for the US Space Program. He was unusually kind and modest and tended to deprecate his abilities and achievements. He was a superb mathematician and an excellent card player, especially in the games of bridge and hearts. He loved classical music and played several instruments---the clarinet, saxophone, and piano. He was an avid Celtics fan, possessing season's tickets to Celtic games through much of his adult life. He had a sharp wit and a wonderful sense of humor that delighted everyone. He had a special talent for making young children laugh. He is survived by his sisters, Louise Wood and her husband Gordon of Providence, RI, and Donna Gagnon and her husband Daniel of Andover, MA, as well as by five nephews and nieces---Christopher Wood of New York City, David Gagnon of Andover, MA, Elizabeth Wood of Milton, MA, Amy Wood of Bloomington, IL, Jennifer Fruhbeis of Weston, CT---and ten grand nieces and nephews, all of whom adored him. Richard's Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, January 19, at 10:00 a.m. at the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple St., LYNN, MA. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn. Visiting Hours will be on Friday, January 18, between 5 and 7 p.m. at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Eva Goss may be made to the ALS Association, 685 Canton St., Suite 103 Norwood, MA 02062, an organization that was important to him. www.als.org To share a memory or leave online condolences, please visit the funeral home website.
