RICHARD LAWRENCE VENA Obituary
VENA, Richard Lawrence Of Braintree passed away after a long illness on September 18, 2016 in his home surrounded by family. Dick was devoted to his family, working two jobs in his younger years to support his wife, Frances Vena, and their five children. Born in December 1942, he was a graduate of Northeastern University and worked for many years as a biochemist for Shattuck Hospital, Harvard, and then Tufts Medical Center. He was an amateur astronomer and loved the vicissitudes of the weather. He was also an avid sports fan, and he enjoyed playing golf and bocce and socializing at the Torri dei Passeri Social Club in Quincy. He was also a faithful Catholic and a longtime member of Saint Clare Parish of Braintree. Beloved husband of Frances Concetta (Cuscianna) Vena, he was also the devoted father of Richard L. Vena and Brandy Vena of Braintree, Anne E. Vena of Holbrook, Emanuel A. Vena and Ann Tweedy of Washington State, Concetta R. Cantillon and Philip Cantillon of Weymouth, and Edward L. Vena and Linda Vena of Boston. He was the beloved grandparent of Bianca Akoury of Quincy; Kristen Akoury of Holbrook; Andreanna Vena of Braintree; Nicole Vena of Abington; Siobhan, Kayleigh, and Philip Cantillon of Weymouth; and Zachary Tweedy-Vena of Washington State. He also was the great grandfather of Haley Akoury and Giovanni Akoury. Dick was the beloved brother of Elizabeth Zschau of Marlboro, James Vena of Florida, Margaret Kearney of Whitman, Edward Vena of Duxbury, and Lynn Vena of Dedham. He was a beloved nephew of Ralph Vena of Kansas. Dick was predeceased by his parents, Richard Vena and Margaret (Russell) Vena, of Quincy and his sister Roberta R. Davis of Weymouth. He was also a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are respectively invited to attend visiting hours Thursday Sept. 22nd from 4-8 p.m. at Bolea-Buonfiglio Funeral Home, 116 Franklin St., QUINCY. Funeral Mass on Friday Sept.23rd at Saint Clare Parish in Braintree at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to , Grand Central Station, P.O.
