I remember Mr Morante, he loved coming to Elm street Dining hall, talking to the staff, always polite, friendly, he had a good connection with the students too. He always loved a good meal, we never closed the doors knowing that Mr Morante, would be in for the evening meal. He always said, to me, " Being Persistent at what you wanted to do,was to be successful ". I enjoyed seeing Mr Morante, wonderful talks with a very Wise Man. He truly made a difference in so many lives, I am grateful to have known him, he so appreciated goodness, a quality that he lived up too. Such a memorable experience at P.E.A, because of Mr Morante.

Some of my strongest memories of my senior year involve interactions with Mr. Morante. It's hard for me not to think of him every time I think of Exeter. Like Jim, I too went into teaching because of Richard Morante, (as well as Peter Greer). Mr. Morante made me realize, through my many lunches and dinners spent with him in Elm Street Dining Hall, that the noblest use of a life spent learning is sharing it with others. Exeter will be different without you, and you are surely and sorely missed.

Dick Morante was my teacher, advisor, and mentor. He is the reason I consider my time as a post-graduate at Exeter the most important year in my life. As I graduated from Amherst four years later I decided that if I could do for someone else what Mr. M had done for me that my life would have true meaning. I continue to believe in that statement more and more as I continue into my third decade of teaching. Only my parents cared as deeply for me. A little over a year ago we were having lunch together. After he repeatedly repelled my comments that he was perhaps the greatest influence in my life he tried to convince me that after all this time we were at last colleagues as teachers. In resignation I nodded but in my heart I knew I would always being looking up to him. For years I have assumed that his presence at Exeter was as much of a fixture as the Academy Building. When I heard he died I thought for a moment that I was wrong but as I thought again I changed my mind. Mr. M, thank you so much for all you did for me.

Mr Morante sparked my daughter's love of latin, the classics while she was at Exeter. He made students laugh, while teaching in his own unique style. I am forever grateful of his time and thoughtfulness in supporting her through the trials of Greek as he knew her learning style well, and cared as she wanted to succeed. He had a special appreciation for the students. He will never be forgotten by Kate.

I have fond memories of his Latin class in 1963 and 1964. He was able to get me through Ceasar and Cicero in Latin , when Norman L Hatch could not. Great teacher. Will surely missed, but remembered. He made a difference.
