ROBERT MAMIS Obituary

MAMIS, Robert Alexander Age 83, of Weymouth, Massachusetts, passed away Sunday, June 25, 2018. Known to most as Bob, he leaves behind his wife, Clare Demarest, his daughter, Tanya Mamis of Brookline; his son, Timothy Mamis of Newton; his stepchildren Aidan Demarest of Los Angeles; Leslie Maysak of Washington DC; and Patti Demarest of Bristol, RI. He also leaves 12 grandchildren. Born and raised in Newton, Massachusetts, Bob graduated from Wesleyan College and enjoyed a successful career as a journalist, writing for Boston Magazine, Newsweek, Sail and Inc. Magazine. Bob was also an accomplished violinist and photographer. For many years, he lived in Hull, Massachusetts in the former 1879 Boston Yacht Club. He was an avid sailor and kept his 34-foot sailboat "Fido" moored 100 yards from his home and raced locally. A private family gathering will celebrate his life. Expressions of sympathy may be made in Bob's memory to the charity of your choice.

Bob was a good friend back in those ancient days, when folk music was turning to old time country. He was the first convert from violin to fiddle, and we shared music for years. I have nothing but good feeling about him, but didn't have enough time to continue our connection. His appearance of seriousness was always belied by the funniness of it all.
