He started as my professor and turned into a great friend. I took many courses he offered. Then I stood up at his wedding with Susan. I feel so sad to know that he is gone. As life happens, I lost touch with him and Susan. I regret that so very, very much. He was so passionate about history. I wish I could talk with him to find out how he feels about these challenging times. He was one in a million. My heart goes out to Susan and their beautiful 4 children. Such a wonderful family. May he rest in peace.

I'm very sorry to have just read about Professor Michael's passing. I enjoyed our chats about History, our laughs, and topics about the military. Thank you for all of your help and advice, including your endorsement for helping me get into Graduate school. God bless you always my friend and RIP.

I was honored to get to know Bob first as a professor and then as a friend. Although he lived and breathed the horrors of the holocaust in his classroom, outside of the class he was one of the most life-affirming and joyous people I've met. He will be missed.

I wish I had gotten the chance to meet Dr. Michael in person, but I was fortunate enough to speak with him.

When Bob read his works at The Meetup Novelist Group, Nashville, TN we were always enriched. His tender voice drew us into the story, as he revealed unique characters.
His tempo quickened. Bob's voice intensified - our interest peaked - we were transported to the Vietnam War.
I never will forget his unpublished story.
Gentle soul, safe journey.

We never got to know Bob as well as we would have liked, but we knew instantly how affable and bright he was. He was also very modest about his many accomplishments. What we noticed most was how happy Susan was when she was with him. We are so sorry for your loss. You are in our thoughts.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Michael family at this time. Bob's generous spirit will reverberate through his students and all who knew him.

Bob was a good friend and a great teacher -- he continues to teach us today. We'll sure him...but take comfort in knowing that his name is now written on the Great Tree of Life where it shall forever remain.

Bob was not a member of our poetry group as long as we wanted, but his presence was always an addition to the productivity and pleasure of the group. I'm sure I speak for all of us: our hearts go out to you.

I have many fond memories of my uncle Bob. I remember when he first started dating my Aunt Susan and how everyone instantly liked him. I remember his interest in art and culture. My most fond memory of Uncle Bob was on one of my visits home from my freshman year of college. I had learned to articulate and converse about art and Uncle Bob and I talked in depth about anything and everything pertaining to art. I remember feeling grown up. In my adult life I have often thought back to that night and that conversation as a turning point in my life. The gift of confidence he bestowed on that day will be transfered to my own students and youth I have a chance to converse with and Bob's legacy will continue for generations to come. Uncle Bob you were amazing and you will be missed but never forgotten.

I had him as a professor of European History at University of South Florida and he was a wonderful teacher. I am so sorry for your loss.
