SHERMONT, Roger DNgclef/In-Line IconMarch 27th, 2016. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Roger Shermont, 93 of Centerville and Boston. Roger Shermont was born in Paris and studied at the Paris Conservatory graduating with the highest honors at the age of 16. After his arrival in the United States, he joined the Boston Symphony in 1950 achieving the position of First Violinist spanning a career of thirty years. Among his numerous solo recitals and performances, he received a standing ovation and acclaim for his solo performance under the conductor Charles Munch in the D major Concerto of Brahms. In addition to his outstanding career with the Boston Symphony, Roger was a dedicated and beloved teacher of violin at the Boston Conservatory, Boston University and Brown University. Upon retiring to Cape Cod, he demonstrated his love of life through gardening, photography, boating and traveling. He leaves behind his wife of 64 years, Irene and his devoted children Robert and Linda and his daughter in law, Herminia as well as his grandchildren and son in law. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Project Step Boston Conservatory. A private service for will be held in his honor.
