Obituary Condolences

JEKA, Ruth Jean Ruth Jean Jeka (nee Mogilka) passed away on August 25, 2018 at the Care Dimensions Hospice House. She was known to her family and friends as "Ruthie". Energetic and optimistic, she was a devoted mother and grandmother, a lover of good food and music, a violinist and an avid Patriots fan. She lived near Harvard Square where she enjoyed an active, independent life with a warm group of friends. Born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Ruthie married Ralph Jeka, an attorney, where they raised four children - James, Anne, Mary & John – on the shores of Lake Michigan. Summers were spent on the beach with family cookouts and bonfire parties. Relatives would congregate for holiday meals to enjoy Ruthie's fine cooking. Ruthie and Ralph eventually gravitated to Boston to be closer to their children. Family and friends came first but music was her passion. Ruthie was trained as an opera singer and was known for singing in church choirs throughout her adult life, often chosen to sing solos at Christmas Eve mass. She loved playing the violin and was a member of the Cambridge Symphony Orchestra for many years. She often related that "music is what keeps me alive". In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cambridge Symphony Orchestra. http://cambridgesymphony.org/donate/ A celebration of her life will occur at Tufts University Goddard Chapel on October 13, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. Family and friends are welcome to attend.
