Obituary Condolences

CUGNO, Salvatore 92, of Hanover, died Saturday, April 27, 2013 at the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth. He was born in Canicattini Bagni, Sicily on January 10, 1921. He was raised and educated in Italy. During World War II, he served as a Medic in the Italian Navy and was wounded during heavy action while tending to injured sailors. After the war ended, he served as a Sargent in the Italian State Police patrolling along the Italian Riviera on his Moto Guzzi motorcycle. His group was responsible for highway patrol, riot control, guarding the railway, and airport and border/customs. His fondest memory was serving on traffic control for one of General Eisenhower's visits to Italy and getting to actually speak with him and shake his hand. Salvatore came to the United States in 1954, became a proud American citizen and lived for many years in Hartford, CT before moving to Massachusetts in the early 1960's. Sal was a hardworking, sweet, kind, and selfless man who dedicated his life to providing for his family.
