Mr. Sulis was a steady, warm and firm presence in my life as a great friend of my dad and mom, and later my boss at Spir-it for about five years in the 1980s. He was a great boss too, with warmth, wisdom and restraint -- surely a model manager, well trained in school, the military, GE and Reliant. But Mr. Sulis clearly was more at the core than his character as a superb organization man. He was also a profoundly but simply deep man. Don't get me wrong. He had an impish gift for laughter, and seemed to have a healthy dose of skepticism about the pomp and circumstance of big institutions and big egos. I will always remember Mr. Sulis laughing in the most heartfelt ways with people who were buying or making swizzle sticks, of all things, but people who thoroughly enjoyed dealing with him because of his honesty, integrity and humility. He could care less about the trappings of being a real star in the business world, which he was. He was interested in genuineness, because he was himself a constant study in being a genuine person.
I am truly honored to have known him well. Mr. Sulis was a great man. My condolences to all privileged to have known him, and to have the privilege of carrying something of his spirit forward in our own lives that he touched.
