SUSAN STURDY

1955 - 2013 | Obituary Condolences
SUSAN STURDY Obituary
STURDY, Susan 57, of Cohasset, passed away on June 16, 2013 after a valiant battle with cancer. She was surrounded by family and loved ones at the time of her passing. Susan was born October 4, 1955 in Boston, Massachusetts. A graduate of Harvard College and Boston University School of Law, Susan practiced in Boston at law firms Goodwin Procter and Mintz Levin. Eventually, she moved to Fidelity Investments, where she spent the last sixteen years of her career. A brilliant corporate lawyer, Susan loved her job, and continued to work through her illness. But most of all she treasured her colleagues, many of whom she considered close friends. Susan was not only a gifted lawyer, but also an avid gardener, cook, seamstress, interior designer, and landscape architect. Her Cohasset home is a tribute to her artistic talents. She loved to entertain family and friends, especially during the holidays, which she had a special knack for making truly magical. She loved captaining her classic speedboat on the warm waters of Peconic Bay with the gentle summer breeze in her hair. She had a wonderful sense of humor and she laughed often, usually to the point of tears. She knew something about just about everything, and her sage advice will be sorely missed by those closest to her. Above all else in life, Susan's pride and joy were her three children. Susan is survived by her much loved long-time companion, John O'Reilly, her parents Robert and Joyce Sturdy, of Cohasset, and her three children, Katherine Englander and Elizabeth Englander of New York City, and Thomas Hislop of Cohasset. She is also survived by her four brothers Robert of Marshfield, David and his wife Charlotte of Scituate, James and his wife Gwen of Williamsburg, Va., Charles and his wife Stacy of Cohasset, and her sister Jean and her husband John Snyder of Topsfield, as well as thirteen truly beloved nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held at the McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home, 1 Summer St. (across from St. Anthony Church), COHASSET, MA on Thursday, June 20, 2013 from 5-8 pm. A Funeral Service will be held at St. John's Episcopal Church in Hingham, MA, June 23, 2013 at 2:00PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dana Farber Cancer Institute to honor Dr. Patrick Wen and his colleagues, who gave us so much wonderful time with Susan, or to South Shore Hospice, which gave us great comfort in the final days.
