1933 - 2018 Obituary Condolences
REGAN, Thomas J. Thomas J. Regan of Trabuco Canyon, CA passed away in his home on May 19 at the age of 84. He was born in Merrick, NY to Charles and Florence Regan and was the youngest of five children. Tom attended Phillips Academy in Andover, MA and then obtained his bachelor's degree at Yale University and master's at Boston University. In addition, he attended Kings College University in Cambridge, England as a research student concentrating on his life-long love of 18th century satire and comedy. In 1957 he returned to Phillips Academy for 45 years to teach English. In addition to his passion for teaching, coaching and mentoring a great number of students over his career, Tom co-authored The English Competence Handbook, chaired the English Department and edited the Andover Bulletin magazine. He was an accomplished carpenter, musician and gardener. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Geraldine; sons William and his wife Allie & Timothy and his wife Jennifer; grandsons Charles and Jack. Friends who are so inclined may send memorial contributions to the Thomas J. Regan '51 Scholarship, which was established in 1996 by Phillips Academy's Class of 1951 in honor of their fellow classmate and teacher. Checks should be made payable to Trustees of Phillips Academy with a notation "for the Regan '51 Scholarship" and mailed to: Office of Academy Resources, Phillips Academy, 180 Main St., Andover, MA 01810.
