THOMAS P. MURPHY Obituary
MURPHY, Thomas P. 88, of Peabody, formerly of Wellesley, Sudbury, and Centerville, died August 31, 2016, at the Edith N. Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford, MA. Born May 5, 1928, in Chanute, Kansas, to the late D.D. (Tim) and Josephine Powers Murphy. Predeceased by his brother, William E. Murphy. He was married for 58 years to Neva Baine Murphy, who survives him. Tom was a proud graduate of both the University of Kansas, where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity, and MIT, where he played rugby. The majority of his professional career was spent as a consulting chemical engineer. He enjoyed coaching youth sports in Wellesley, music (especially jazz), dancing and curling, in addition to spending time with his family. He is survived by his children: T. Patrick (Susan) of North Reading, Neva of Reston, VA, John (Kelly) of New Canaan, CT, Kate (Claude) Staehly of Wellesley, and Mike (Ali) of Windsor, CT and ten grandchildren: T.K., Aidan, Max, Brian, Sofia, Sarah, Grace, Jack, Fiona, and Bowen. A funeral Mass to celebrate Tom's life will take place at St. Paul's Church in Wellesley at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 10.
