W. Crawford Dunlap Jr.

W. Dunlap Obituary

DUNLAP, W. Crawford, Jr. 92, of West Newton, Jan. 25. He was the husband of Ellen (Hebrew) Dunlap and the father of Nancy (Dunlap) Morrison. He is survived by many nieces and nephews. He earned a bachelor's degree in physics and chemistry in 1938 from the University of New Mexico and a Ph.D. in physics in 1943 from the University of California at Berkeley. He was then employed as a physicist with General Electric Co. (Schenectady, NY), then Bendix Research Labs (Southfield, MI), and then Raytheon Corp. (Waltham, MA) before becoming assistant director of electronic components research at the NASA Electronics Research Center in Cambridge, MA. He carried out some of the basic research that eventually led to today's electronic devices. He was the author of a book and numerous research papers and was editor-in-chief of the technical journal Solid State Electronics from its founding in 1959 until 1993.Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Massachusetts Audubon Society or to a charity of your choice.
