1931 - 2016 Obituary Condolences
MURRAY, Walter K. 84, of Lincoln, MA, formerly of Sarasota, FL, Albany, NY and Longmeadow, MA, died Sunday, May 1, 2016. Born August 9, 1931 in Portland, ME, he graduated from Cheverus High School in Portland, ME in 1951 and cum laude from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA in 1955. He served in the United States Army as 2nd LT from 1955-1957. Walter dedicated 32 years of service to Sears, Roebuck and Company, holding various executive management positions with his final post in Albany, NY. In 1987 he retired to Sarasota, FL with his wife, Mary, where they lived for the past 27 years until relocating to Lincoln, MA, in 2015. Walter and Mary spent every summer with their grandchildren on Cape Cod and in West Dover, VT and enjoyed sharing with them their love of golf and passion for investing. Walter was a man of devout faith and was most proud of his investiture as a Knight of Malta by the late Cardinal Terence Cooke in St. Patrick's Cathedral, NY in 1980. Walter served as Director of St. Peter's Hospital and St. Anne's Institute, Albany, NY. Among his many civic duties, Walter was Chairman of the NYS Retail Council, Chairman of the Albany Civic Center Committee, Director of the Albany Regional Chamber of Commerce and member of the Fifty Group. He was also a Governor at Albany Country Club and Director of the Albany Symphony Orchestra. Beloved husband of Mary (McCarthy) Murray of Lincoln, MA. Devoted father of Kimberly Jaeger and her husband George of Sudbury, MA. Proud grandfather of Caitlin Arnold and her husband Brian of West Hartford, CT, David Jaeger and his girlfriend Kathleen Sweeney of Hingham, MA. Loving son of the late Helen (Higgins) Murray. A calling hour will be held Saturday from 9:30-10:30AM at the Duckett- J.S. Waterman & Sons Home of Memorial Tribute, 656 Boston Post Road, SUDBURY.
