WARREN HIMMELBERGER Obituary

HIMMELBERGER, Warren 90, of Littleton, MA, passed away peacefully Nov. 5. Survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Ann (Herpy), and five devoted children: son Allen and daughter-in-law Karen of Medway, son David and daughter-in-law Katy Reid of Wellesley, daughter Ann Wald and son-in-law Jack Wald of Rabat, Morocco; son Craig of Lowell, former daughter-in-law Maureen Cahill of Littleton; and son Clark and Kelly Spence of Algonac, MI. Also 11 grandchildren: Adam, Kristen, and Laura; Emma R. and Julia; Elizabeth and Caitlin; Calvin, John, and Alma; and Emma S., and five great-grandchildren: Lucia and Clara; and Samuel, Jeffrey, and Nora. He was predeceased by his first wife, Joan (Bradley) and his sister, Marion White. Warren grew up in Lebanon, PA, and graduated from Muhlenberg College. He served in the Pacific during World War II as a Navy weatherman. He received two graduate degrees from BU. He was a dedicated math teacher at Wilson Junior High in Natick, MA until he retired from teaching in 1977. He also worked part-time at the Holliston, MA post office from 1956-84. Warren was a faithful member of University Lutheran Church, Cambridge, MA since 1946. A long-time resident of Wellesley, he was active in town government, and helped establish the Quinobin Regional Vocational School, serving as secretary-treasurer from 1978-87. He was also active in the South Middlesex Branch of the NAACP, the Wellesley Historical Society, Tax Counseling for the Elderly, and the Highland Glee Club. Private services were held. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Warren's life at a memorial service Sunday, December 2, 2012 at 2 PM, Littleton Congregational Church, 330 King St, Littleton, MA. The patriarch of a great family, Warren spent his life advocating for social equity. A distinguished member of 'The Greatest Generation,' he was cut from a special cloth. His legacy lives on through his children and grand-children.

Sad to hear of Warren's passing. I always thought of him as young and energetic. He was a tremendous help to the South Middlesex NAACP and along with his wife, helped so many in need. Warren may you rest in peace! You certainly touched the hearts of many.
