WINFIELD G. "BUD" KNOPF Obituary
KNOPF, Winfield G. "Bud" O Concord, formerly a longtime resident of Winchester, died peacefully in Concord on October 20, at the age of 99. Born in Philadelphia on October 17, 1917, he enjoyed an exceptionally rewarding life. His path led from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, to the U.S. Navy in 1941 at the start of W.W. II. Following wartime sea duty, Mr. Knopf's tours of duty in the Navy included a stint at the Harvard Business School where he earned an MBA and became a lifelong supporter of the School. After retirement from the Navy in 1961, he became an Assistant and later an Associate Dean at HBS. In later life he continued his association with the School while serving as Vice President of the New England Board of Higher Education. In his private life he served on various committees of the Parish of the Epiphany in Winchester and as an assistant with Boy Scout Troop 507, as well as serving as a member and Chair of the Board of Directors of the Perkins School in Lancaster, MA. Mr. Knopf was an avid traveler, enjoying numerous adventures in the U.S.A. and abroad with his wife, children, and friends over many years, and several solo journeys around the world. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Craige Knopf of Concord, sons, Craige of Winchester, Scott of Winter Park, FL, and daughter, Phoebe of Brookline. A Service of Remembrance and Thanksgiving will be held on Saturday, November 5, at the Chapel at Newbury Court, Concord, MA, at 2 p.m. Donations may be made to the National Parks Foundation, 1110 Vermont Ave., Washington, D.C. or to any organization that helps veterans. www.costellofuneralhome.com
