THOMPSON, Winston Edna

(West) Age 82, passed away on Saturday, March 26, 2016 at Devereux House Nursing Home in Marblehead, Massachusetts. She was born and raised in Newark, NJ, then resided in Plainfield NJ, Peabody, MA, West Hartford, CT, and Marblehead, MA. Dr. Thompson is survived by her son Darren E. Thompson and his wife Katerina Thompson of Salem, MA, and her 4 grandchildren, Cassandra A. Thompson-Moreau of Revere, MA, Mackenzie A. (Thompson) Murphy, Salem, MA, Naya E. and Jordan E. Thompson, Salem, MA. Dr. Thompson attended and graduated from Seton Hall University with a B.A. in Psychology, Columbia University with a M.A. in Student Personnel/Psychology, and then Rutgers University, obtaining her Ed.D in Higher Education Administration/Student Personnel. Dr. Thompson continued to work in the field of Higher Education for many years. She was a Guidance Counselor at Essex County College in Newark, NJ, and then became Associate Dean of Student Affairs at Livingston College in New Brunswick, NJ. After that, she became the Dean of Student Development at Tombrock College, Paterson, NJ. Later, she moved to Massachusetts, to take the position of Vice President of Student Services at Salem State College, and finally retiring from the position of Executive Officer - Academic Affairs and Research at Connecticut State University, Hartford, CT. Dr. Thompson will be missed by her family and those she thought of as family. Private services were held. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the Winston E. Thompson, PhD Scholarship at Essex County College.
