DOKTOR, Janina Of Belmont Born Jan. 7, 1918 Died Feb. 9, 2013 She was born in Poland as Janina Kulewska, daughter of Piotr Kulewski and Michaela Kulewska. Janina was a dentist in Poland and Russia early in her adult life when World War II broke out in 1939. She spent most of the war with her young daughter in various German work camps (often as a dentist). Near the end of the war, they walked 100 kilometers in three days so that they would be in US-occupied Germany when the war ended. During six years as displaced persons in Germany, she married Dr. Walter Doktor. The three emigrated to the United States in 1951, first to Hamtramck, Michigan, and shortly afterward to Chicago, where the Doktors later divorced. In Chicago, Janina worked in Davidson's Bakery for nearly three decades. Upon retirement in 1980, she went to live with her daughter's family in Belmont, MA, where she resided for almost all of the rest of her life. She is survived by her daughter, Halina Estin of Belmont, two grandchildren, Dr. Julie Estin Vaughn (and her husband Dr. Ross Vaughn) of Tuscaloosa, Alabama and Paul Estin, Ph.D., of Newton, and two great-grandchildren, Bradley and Meredith Vaughn. Visiting hours will be held in the Brown & Hickey Funeral Home 36 Trapelo Road Belmont on Saturday Feb 16 from 1:00-4:00 PM. With a service to be held during the visitation at 2:00 PM.
