Godolphin, Ellen (Bernstein)
Died on Saturday, October 5th at her home in Concord, MA, of cancer at the age of 66. She was born Ellen Barbara Bernstein, the daughter of Dr. Charles Bernstein and Sylvia Hayman Bernstein, in Boston in 1947 and lived in the Buffalo, NY, area from the age of 6 until she left to attend George Washington University. After graduation, she got a master's degree in English at Boston University and remained in the Boston area the rest of her life. She married Richard Stephenson in 1971 and they had two sons, Matthew, now of Belmont, MA, and Alexander, now of Fredericksburg, VA. Her first marriage ended in divorce. She married David Godolphin in 1994. She worked as an editor and writer at Harvard's Arnold Arboretum, Harvard Law School, where she was an editor of the HLS Bulletin, and the Hebrew Rehabilitation Center. In 1985, she joined Arthur D. Little Decision Resources (later Decision Resources), eventually becoming a leader of its Life Sciences group. In 1995, she and her husband, with other partners, started Equinox Group, a consultancy serving biopharmaceutical companies, in Lexington, MA. In addition to her sons, she is survived by her husband David, stepson Robin Godolphin of La Crosse, WI, brothers Dr. Mark Bernstein of East Setauket, NY, Stuart Bernstein of Raleigh, NC, and Steven Bernstein of Los Angeles. She is also survived by five grandchildren she adored: Naomi and Jacob of Belmont, MA, Luke and Zoë of Fredericksburg, VA, and Liam of La Crosse, WI.
