ARTHUR D. O'BRIEN Obituary
O'BRIEN, Arthur D. 82, of Peabody, died peacefully March 3, 2014 at Mass General Hospital in Boston surrounded by his family. He was born February 19, 1932 in Salem and was the son of the late Edward and Bridget (Sweeny) OBrien. He was also predeceased by his siblings; Edward OBrien, Mary Fleming, and Elizabeth Holland. Mr. OBrien was raised in Salem, attended the Salem schools and St. Marys High School in Lynn. He received an undergraduate degree from Boston College, a B.S. degree from Suffolk University, and a Masters Degree from Bentley University. He was the widower of Nancy (Chittick) OBrien, who died in 2011 and to whom he had been happily married for 55 years, spending most of their life on the North Shore of Massachusetts with their three children. He was a loving father and successful businessman who worked for NYNEX for 42 years in the telecommunications industry in a variety of management and executive positions in both Boston and New York before retiring in 1993. He was a wonderful and kind man with a keen intellect, a dry wit and a great sense of humor. He found tremendous enjoyment from his close knit family and friends. He was an avid golfer who also enjoyed his poker games and liars dice and was a long time member of a well-known North Shore golf and poker group. He enjoyed reading everything he could, but especially his daily newspapers to stay current on business and political events. Arthur always enjoyed a welcoming cocktail with anyone that stopped by for a visit. After retirement, he relocated with his wife Nancy to Bonita Springs, Florida and continued to travel, play golf, and enjoy life which included the many visits of friends and family, before moving back to the North Shore. Family members include his three children; Deborah May and her husband Ron of Peabody; Eric OBrien and his wife Nena of Bedford, NH; Kathleen Daly and her husband Pat of Hamilton; six grandchildren; Joshua Lynch and his wife Carly, Jennifer Lynch, Daniel OBrien, Cara, Patrick, and Aidan Daly; 2 great grandchildren; Kayla and Dylan Lynch. The family wishes to thank the teams at the Brooksby Medical Center and Brooksby Home Support. Burial will be private with the family. Arrangements by the Eustis and Cornell Funeral Home, MARBLEHEAD.
