FRANCIS A. HURLEY Obituary
HURLEY, Francis A. 87, of Brooksby Village, Pea-body, formerly of Waban, died on March 20, 2014. Born in Boston, Francis attended Portsmouth Priory in Rhode Island and Boston College for two years before going into the Army in 1945. He served as a 1st LT during WWII and Korea. Francis moved to Waban in 1958 with his family where he resided for over 54 years until 2012. He was a longtime parishioner of St. Philip Neri Church in Waban where he was a Lector, and served on the Parish Council and Newspaper Guild. While his children were growing up Francis was very active in the Newton Little League, Boys Scouts and Newton Youth Hockey. Francis was also a "friend of Bill" for 58 years. Francis was an National Advertising Manager for the Boston Herald until 1972 and the Boston Globe for about 18 years until his retirement. He also was a member of the Appalachian Mountain Club, Sierra Club, and the Audubon Society. Francis was the husband of the late Dorothy "Thea" (Wike) Hurley of fifty years. Loving father of Lorelei Griffith and her husband Kit of Narragansett, RI, Deirdre Putnam and her husband David of Ipswich, Geoffrey Hurley of Montpelier, VT, Meghan Hurley of Woodbridge, VA, Elisa Wike Hurley of Sante Fe, New Mexico and Bar Harbor, ME, Andrea Phan of Boston, and Johanna Crawford and her husband Arch of Tuscon, AZ. Dear grandfather of Nicholas Roncolato and his wife Juliana, Joseph Roncolato, Erin Putnam, Kirstin and Alexis Hurley, Annika and Ian Sampson, and great-grandfather of Emilola and Desmond Roncolato. Father-in-law of Regina Librizzi of Montpelier, VT and Stephen Sampson. Francis also leaves his brother-in-law Robert Broderick of McLean, VA, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Services in the Newton Cemetery Cha-pel, 791 Walnut St., Newton Centre, on Tuesday, March 25th at 11:30 AM. Interment with Military Honors will take place at the Newton Cemetery.
