Obituary Condolences

HORKAN, Ann Philomena Of Osterville, March 31, 2014, formerly of Watertown, and Inishmaan, Aran Islands, County Galway, Ireland, died at home surrounded by her family. Born in Ireland, she came to the United States at the age of 18. She lived in Watertown and raised six children before retiring to Osterville. A member of the Smithsonian Institute Office of Folk life Heritage, she was active in preserving her Irish heritage. She was proud to participate in the 22nd Annual Festival of American Folklife on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. in July of 1988. She was an active member of the Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church and enjoyed volunteering for many activities. She is predeceased by her husband Patrick (Chris) Horkan. Mother of Nancy and her husband John Isberg of Westwood, Christopher and his wife Lisa of Pembroke, Gerald and his wife Keiko of Hillsborough, CA, Patricia and her husband Christopher Casey of Amherst, NH, Julie and her husband Brian Meringer of Belmont, John and his wife Stephanie of Allendale, NJ. Loving Nana to Megan and Molly Isberg, Ian and Olivia Horkan, Kai, Emi and Jun Horkan, Conor and Devan Casey, Ally, Tory and Kiley Meringer, Christopher, Michael and Kathryn Horkan. Sister of Maureen Conneely of the Aran Islands, Peggy Devereux of Plainfiled, IL, and Bridie Dillon of Novato, CA. She is predeceased by her parents Colm and Margaret Flaherty and brothers Colm and Sean Flaherty. Visiting hours will be from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Thursday, April 3rd at the John Lawrence Funeral Home, 3778 Falmouth Road, MARSTONS MILLS. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Friday at Our Lady of the Assumption, 76 Wianno Ave., Osterville. Burial will follow in Mosswood Cemetery in Cotuit.
