1924 - 2014 Obituary Condolences
HAGAN, Elizabeth Gilchrist Of Cohasset, passed away peacefully among family on March 6, 2014, at the age of 89. She was born on May 6, 1924 in Springfield, Massachusetts. "Libby" Hagan led a quiet life of dignity and grace for nearly six decades in Cohasset. In all that she did, she raised her three sons with a complete devotion to their care, interests, and sense of security. She took much pleasure and pride in the early years watching her two older boys excel at playing Little League and Pony League baseball. She catered to her youngest boys earliest interests in history with trips to just about every colonial and revolutionary war site throughout New England and upstate New York. To a person, each of her three sons knew they always came first and that she was their greatest fan. As her sons grew up, she went on to enjoy many years as a salesperson at the Linen Chest, a local store that surely benefitted from her fine sense of taste in home decor. She always found great enjoyment and interest in the lives and activities of all of her grandchildren. In her later years, along with the joy of great-grandchildren, she found new friendships and much self-fulfillment in the welcoming community of the Second Congregation Church and through volunteering at the towns Paul Pratt Memorial Library, Elder Affairs organization, and Food Pantry. Her final three years of life were spent in the comfort and activities of Harbor House in Hingham with its remarkably caring nurses and other care givers. She is survived by her sons, John and his wife Melody of South Natick and Joe and his wife Jeanne of Morgantown, West Virginia. She was preceded in death by her oldest son, Benjamin, and is survived by his wife Kathy of Glendale, Arizona. She so enjoyed her six grandchildren (Sara Hagan Parker, Allyson Hagan Keefover, Rebecca Hagan Roscoe, Emily Clarke Hagan, Michael Benjamin Hagan, and Katelyn Gilchrist Hagan) and, in turn, her six great-grandchildren (Zoe and Sophia Keefover; Eric, Olivia, and Luke Parker; and Ryan Hagan Bishop). McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements. A memorial service and burial will be private.
