1933 - 2014 Obituary Condolences
Proulx, Jean Paul R. 80, a resident of West Boxford, MA since 1972, passed away suddenly on May 22, 2014. Born on August 14, 1933 in Cambridge, MA, Paul was the youngest child of Joseph and Fabiola (Luci) Proulx. He was predeceased by his brothers Raymond and Gerard, and his sister, Therese. Along with his brothers, Paul operated Pony Boy Ice Cream throughout Cambridge and surrounding cities in the 1940's. After graduating from Cambridge High and The Latin School in 1951, Paul was a riding instructor at his brother Gerard's riding school, Andover Riding Academy. Paul went on to own and operate one of the largest tack shops in the Northeast, The Equestrian Shop, North Andover, for sixty years. He was an avid tennis player and runner, completing the Boston Marathon several times. Paul was an active Rotarian in North Andover and participated in numerous events including his most recent participation in a selection committee for the North Andover "Service Above Self" scholarship awarded to a participating North Andover High School student. Paul is survived by his daughter, Monique Proulx, his granddaughters, Brianna and Allysha Proulx-Walter, and Rosita Salazar Proulx who resided with him in West Boxford. He is also survived by his nephews Norman R. Proulx (New Jersey), Michael Proulx (Oklahoma), Dennis Proulx (New Hampshire), John Paul Hagerty (New Hampshire) and Kevin Hagerty (North Andover) and his niece Bridget Proulx (Oklahoma). Visitation will be on Thursday, May 29, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Conte Funeral Home, 17 Third Street, North Andover. A mass celebrating Paul's life is scheduled at 10:00 AM Friday morning, May 30, at St. Michael Parish, 196 Main Street, North Andover, followed by his burial at Holy Sepulchre Cemetary. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to his favorite charity, St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
