Obituary Condolences

Locke, Doris (Tobis) Of Framingham, MA, formerly of Newton and Centerville, MA and Sarasota FL, passed away on July 6, 2014, following a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease. She was the beloved daughter of the late Ralph and Bessie (Weschler) Tobis and sister of the late Lucille Greenberg. Doris was the beloved wife of the late Merle I. Locke and the mother of Ralph (Lona Farhi) Locke and Jean (Alan) Miller. She was the beloved grandmother of Matthew Miller, Meredith Miller, Martha (Adam) Kerner, and Susannah Locke. After the death of her first husband, Doris became the beloved wife of the late Dr. Isadore Schwartz and the stepmother of Penny (Jason) Grossman. She was the beloved grandmother of Rachel Grossman and Richard (Michelle) Grossman. She was the adored great-grandmother of Zachary, Vivian, Bridget and Emma. Doris was the cherished cousin of Bernice Feldberg and a loving aunt to her nieces and nephew. Doris was an active fundraiser and leader in many organizations. She was a devoted member of the congregation of Temple Israel of Boston and was appointed a Lifetime Member of the Board of Trustees. She was a founding member of Women's Aid for Heart Research and the Women's Scholarship Association of Greater Boston. Doris was a proud graduate of the University of Massachusetts (Boston), earning her undergraduate degree in Gerontology at the age of 65. She enjoyed life, achieved many milestones, and was caring and kind to all her family and friends. Doris's family wishes to thank the many doctors, nurses and aides who cared for her with skill, kindness and love in her later years. Doris will be greatly missed by those who loved her. Services will be held at Temple Israel, 477 Longwood Avenue, Boston (parking on the Riverway) on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at 10:30 am. Interment at Sharon Memorial Park. Memorial observance will be at the home of Jean and Alan Miller on Tuesday 2-8:30 pm. Remembrances in her memory may be made to the Merle I.
