Obituary Condolences

COOK, Arthur Francis, Jr. A resident of Osterville, MA, and Manasota Key, FL, formerly of Dedham, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 of pancreatic cancer. Art was the son of Arthur and Catherine (Martin) Cook. He grew up in Arlington, MA. After graduating from Fordham University, he joined the United States Marine Corps. In 1959, Art completed his military service as a First Lieutenant and moved to New York City where he joined the advertising agency of Doherty, Clifford, Steers, and Shenfield. A few years later, he moved to Boston to join the firm of BBD&O. Later, he pursued a career in commercial industrial real estate at Ryan Elliott and C.W. Whittier, where he was a managing partner until his retirement. Art believed strongly in contributing his time and efforts to the communities in which he lived. For many years, he served as a dedicated trustee of the Faulkner Hospital, the Brimmer & May School, the North Bennett Street Industrial School, the Centerville Library, the Barnstable Land Trust, and the Lemon Bay Conservancy. He was a long time member and past board member of the Dedham Country and Polo Club and the Hyannisport Club, as well as a member of the Jacaranda West Country Club of Venice, FL and the Beach Club in Centerville, MA. In his retirement, Art loved to ride his bike on Cape Cod, hike the trails of the National Sea Shore and spend time at the library. His love of daily swims in the ocean, no matter the temperature, was well known to all who knew him. Art was an avid golfer, tennis player and skeet shooter throughout his life. Art is survived by his wife Cici, son Laurence, daughters Nina and Jennifer, son-in-law Will Ruhl, granddaughter Meredith and her husband Patrick, granddaughter Caroline and great grandson Raul. He is also survived by his sister Wilma Maus and her husband Bob and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his younger brother Robert Cook formerly of Tempe, Arizona and his parents Arthur and Catherine Cook. The Cook family is grateful to the VNA Hospice of Cape Cod, especially to Paula and Sue, for the wonderful care Art received. In lieu of flowers, donations in Art's memory may be made to the Barnstable Land Trust, P.O. Box 224, Cotuit, MA 02635 or the VNA Hospice of Cape Cod, 434 Rte.134, Suite D3, South Dennis, MA 02660. A service in celebration of Art's life will be held on Monday, August 11th at 2:00 pm at St. Andrew's By the Sea, Hyannis Port, MA.
