ANDREE WILSON Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Oct. 22 to Oct. 23, 2016.
WILSON, Andree Desiree Died peacefully in her sleep at home in Newton Centre, Massachusetts, with her family by her side on Saturday, October 15, 2016. She was deeply loved and cherished by her husband Richard Wilson and their six children. She was likewise loved and admired by all who knew her. Her warmth, humor, generosity, and genius in her garden brought joy to countless people. Andree was born January 6, 1928 to Blanche Irene (Gaebel) DuMond and Jesse William Monroe DuMond in Pasadena, California, and grew up there with her sister Adele Panofsky. She met her husband Richard Wilson in the fall of 1951, and they were married on January 5, 1952. They lived and traveled the world together for over 63 years. A strong supporter of world peace movements, Andree marched in the Vietnam War protest on the Mall in Washington, DC in May 1971. After raising their six children, in 1981, she enrolled at Massachusetts College of Art to study photography. Graduating with a BFA in 1989, she focused her camera on rock quarries, thickets and trees, and showed her work at the South Shore Arts Center. Andree's greatest joy was working in and designing her garden in Newton Centre, which she shared for years with her beloved cat Ms. Featured on WCVB TV in 1995, her garden won the City of Newton Beautification Award in 2004, and has been an oasis for many who visit. Andree was active with the American Iris Society, the Historic Iris Preservation Society, the Newton Garden Tour, and the Newton Conservators, with whom she was involved in preserving the Webster Vale. Andree is survived by her husband Richard Wilson, Mallinckrodt Professor Emeritus of Physics at Harvard University; sister Adele Panofsky; children and their partners: Steven R. Harrison and Deborah G. Tatar, A. Christopher Wilson and Rita K. McMahon, Michael T. Wilson and Lisa Greenleaf, Nicholas G. Wilson and Carol Anne Freeman, Elaine S. Wilson and Bradley D. Farnsworth, Andre A. Wilson and Perry Silverschanz, Peter J. Wilson and Julie Whitmore; grandchildren Benjamin W. Farnsworth, Irene D. Farnsworth, Tyrone J. Whitmore-Wilson, Galen S. Harrison and Adrian R. Harrison. She is also survived and will be deeply missed by dear friends and companions of her life, especially Angela Aaronson, Bethune LaBeach, Stella Mettle, Aracely Sosa, Efrain Rodriguez, Barbara Trainer, Andrea Roman, Juliette Godson and many others. Dear Wilson Family,
You all welcomed us with open and loving hearts when we arrived in America in August 1962----more than 50 years ago. You showed us what it is like to have a wonderful family with young children around you. So, we tried to emulate your idyllic life and succeeded with two great children of our own.
Andre had a special reservoir of love, patience and care for all around her. We felt very precious by her bountiful love being showered upon us.
Dick, we wish you peace of mind and and the best possible health in these later years of your life. Always know that I had great respect for you as a friend and as a physicist with great insight.
What a wonderful family you and Andree had. They are the greatest and longest living result of your love and life together.
Dick, we both send you our love and best memories of our great time together----not least of which was our wonderful trip for a holiday in NH. We remember jumping off the pier, all at one time, with all the kids to make the biggest splash ever seen in NH.
Our deepest condolences to all of you at this time.
With special love, Isobelle and Jim.

Please accept our deepest condolences from the Ladah Family and the Ladah Foundation for the passing of Andrée D. Wilson. Over the years, we at the Ladah Foundation have been touched by her generosity; Andrée and Professor Richard Wilson have been most generous in supporting our modest efforts to help needy Palestinian students and charitable institutions in Jerusalem and Bethlehem. We and those we help are saddened by the news of Andrée D. Wilson's passing. May the Almighty bless her soul and grant her eternal peace.

I met Andree on the first day of my first child's first school. She brought Peter into the classroom and I immediately thought this was the person I want to know, Peter was the child Edwin would want to play with! I soon discovered that she was the mother we would all want! Edwin spent all his free time at the exciting Wilson home, with many instant siblings and his new best friend. Andree made life wonderful for all the kids, her own and their friends. There was always something adventurous going on. She had a quiet dignity and warm welcome that enabled and encouraged the children to flourish and explore on their own. We were so lucky to have such a neighbor and Edwin was fortunate in having her as another loving and encouraging presence in his life. She was a wonderful woman in many ways, but it is in relation to the children that I will always remember her.
We all send our condolences and sympathy to the Wilson family!

Lucille and I have such good memories of seeing Andree and Dick in Erice, Sicily, virtually every August for more than a decade. They were always so close to each other in Erice, a devoted couple we truly enjoyed. We miss those times. Our thoughts are especially with Dick at this moment, happy that he is supported by a family made rich in love and kindness from Andree.
