COLO, Bernard Gabriel 68, of Medway, MA died Sunday, September 17, 2017 at Highgate Manor in Dedham, MA following a short illness.
He was born in Pittsfield, MA on November 25, 1948 son of Isaac B. and Angelena (Jammallo) Colo. He attended North Adams parochial schools and graduated from the former St. Joseph High School. Bernie received his BA in Sociology from St. Anselm's College in 1970 and received his M. Ed in Educational Media/Technology from Boston University in 1978.
Bernie retired as Director of Academic Media Services at Providence College where he worked for 15 years. Prior to that, he served in the same role at Simmons College, Skidmore College, New England College and St. Anselm's College. He earned his Certified Technology Specialist (CTS) in 2005. Bernie was a member of the Consortium of College and University Media Centers (CCUMC). A fierce defender of "the teachable moment", he served as consultant on the use of media technologies to promote the academic learning process.
He was a communicant of St. Joseph Church in Medway, MA where he sang in the choir and was a former Lector, Eucharistic Minister and CCD teacher. He enjoyed gardening and utilized the fruits of his garden in the kitchen. Bernie was a great cook and everyone loved his food as much as he loved cooking for them. His keen interest in cars was realized driving his fathers' 1986 El Camino. An avid photographer, Bernie always had a camera at the ready for that special image.
Survivors include his wife, M. Elizabeth (Wentworth) Colo whom he married on August 2, 1975 and his son, Marc B. Colo and his wife, Olga of Holliston, MA. He also leaves his rescue dog, his beloved buddy, Duke.

It is 25 February 2022, and I was thinking of you, Bernie... sad to learn of your passing... My first memory of you is August 1966 at St. Anselm's College (as it was named at that time). We were both standing around, with a cardboard tag around our necks that had our name, nick name and major... both of us had written "Chemistry"... and that is how we met. Later we became roommates. After graduation we saw each other a few times, I was his best man when he married, we skied together, dinner...
may you be at peace, and I hope to see you again...
