Obituary Condolences

84, of Manchester, NH, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2003 at St. Theresa's Manor, after a period of declining health. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, May 12, 1919, the son of John and Julia (Sweeney) Gately. Mr. Gately was educated in the Boston School System. Mr. Gately moved to Manchester and was employed as Branch Manager for Graybar Electric Co. here in Manchester, NH. Mr. Gately was a United States Army Air Corps Veteran of World War II. During World War II, Mr. Gately was a prisoner of War being shot down over Germany. Mr. Gately was a former member of the American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans while living in the Boston area. Mr. Gately was a communicant of St. Catherine's Parish. Members of his family include his wife of fifty-eight years Edna M. (Linskey) Gately of Manchester; four sons Thomas Gately of Upper Montclair, NJ, Bernard Gately of San Diego, CA, Paul Gately of Hopkinton, MA and Joseph Gately of Manchester, NH; one daughter Mary Desmarais of Nashua, NH; thirteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; one sister Catherine Godin of Mashpee, MA and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Gately was pre-deceased by a daughter Carol Gately, who died in 1975. Calling hours will be Sunday from 5 to 8 at the McHugh Funeral Home, 483 Beech St., corner of Hanover St., Manchester, NH. The Funeral will take place from the Funeral Home Monday at 10:30 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Catherine's Church at 11:30 AM. Burial will follow in the new St. Joseph's Cemetery, Bedford, NH. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Theresa's Manor, 519 Bridge St., Manchester. NH 03104.
