Obituary Condolences Flowers

MITCHELL, Gertrude (Graber) Passed away on her 87th birthday, January 10, 2010 at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, MA with loved ones by her side. Gertie was born and raised in Staten Island, NY, the middle child of Alfred and Katie (Reichert) Graber, graduating from Curtis High School in 1940. In 1942, while working for a company that manufactured equipment for the U.S. Navy, she met Tom Mitchell - the man who became her beloved husband for 66 years. In the mid 1950s, they settled in Acton, MA for 20 plus years where Gertie not only continued her devotion to family, but became a devoted fan of the Boston Red Sox, perhaps to the chagrin of her New York relatives. In 1977, Gertie and Tom retired to LaPine, OR, fulfilling her husband's dream to return to his Pacific Northwest roots. Their next move was to Merrimack, NH in 1997 to be closer to family. After Tom passed away in 2008, Gertie made a final move to RiverCourt Residences in Groton, MA where she was a favorite amongst the workers and residents. She is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Robert & Thelma Graber of Staten Island, NY; a sister-in-law Jeanie Bryan of LaPine, OR; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael & Michelle Mitchell of Merrimack, NH; three daughters and their husbands, Sharon & David Chadwick of Albuquerque, NM; Donna & Robert Piche of Groton, MA; and Susan & Tim Fischer of Amherst, NH; nine grandchildren and seven (soon-to-be eight) great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Tom, who is now reunited with the girl of his dreams. George R. Rivet Funeral Home of MERRIMACK, NH is in charge of arrangements. There are no calling hours. A service is planned at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 3 Craftsman Lane, Amherst, NH on Friday, January 15 at 11am to celebrate the life of this caring woman. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the , 6 Chenell Dr., Suite 260, Concord, NH 03301. For more info, or to sign an on-line guestbook, go to www.rivetfuneralhome.com.
