SULLIVAN, Michael Thomas Of South Weymouth, MA and Lake Park, FL, died peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family on Jan. 31, 2010. He was 92 years old. Born in Corning and raised in Cambridge, OH, he received his BS in Civil Engineering Degree in 1939 from the University of Dayton. He was drafted into the Army in 1942 and served as Captain in the Engineer Corps, stationed in England, North Africa and Italy. In November of 1942, while sailing for the invasion of French North Africa, his ship was torpedoed by a German sub. He was clinging to a life raft for four hours before rescue. In 1946, he married Bacara "Becky" E. Samora, from Lynn, MA, and together they raised four children in Reading, MA. He received a law degree from Boston College in 1951. Michael worked for the MA Dept. of Public Works for 33 years, retiring in 1981. He was the resident engineer for the erection of the Central Artery in the Charlestown district between the Mystic River Bridge and the Charles River Bridge and ended his career as Supervising Agent of Right of Way. He also served on the Reading Board of Assessors from 1970 to 1987. After retiring, he and Becky spent half the year in FL and half in MA. They traveled extensively, and when home, he volunteered at St. Mary's Hospital and Palm Beach Gardens Hospital. He enjoyed swimming and travel, crossword puzzles and backgammon, barbequing and baking biscuits, and most especially, the company of his wife, children and grandchildren. He is survived by his caring wife and devoted children: Michelle Sullivan of Hamden, CT, Joanne Morlani and her husband Angelo of Bridgewater, MA, Elaine Sullivan of Barrington, NH, and Michael David Sullivan of Valrico, FL. He is the cherished grandfather of Elizabeth and Michael Morlani and Kyle and Jason Sullivan. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be private.
