Obituary Condolences

DAKIN, David J. "Dave" Age 71, of Ayer, MA and long time resident of Harvard, MA, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family at his home on Monday, March 15, 2010 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Stoneham, MA, the son of the late Norman and Julia (Joy) Dakin, graduated from Arlington High School and received an Associates Degree from Fisher Junior College. After serving in the U.S. Army he commenced a 33 year career with Algonquin Gas Transmission Company where he was an Engineering Project Leader for natural gas transmission pipelines. Dave was a member of Caleb Butler Masonic Lodge in Ayer, MA, served twice as Master of his lodge (1982 and 1992) and held many other offices in the lodge. In 2009 he was awarded the Joseph Warren Medal for Outstanding Public Service, the highest honor bestowed by the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts for Community, Charity, and Lodge Service. Dave is survived by his cherished wife of 50 years Nancy (Lopez) Dakin, as well as five children Stephen Dakin of Harvard, MA; Helene Dakin and her partner Tara Howe of Brockton, MA; David Dakin and his wife Eve (Russell) Dakin of Leominister, MA; Julie (Dakin) McLeish and her husband Dominic (Tony) McLeish of Dedham, MA and Michael Dakin and his wife Anne Maka of Dubai, UAE and five grandchildren. Calling hours will be held on Friday, March 19 at Caleb Butler Masonic Lodge, 11 Scully Road, Ayer, MA from 3-7PM. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, March 20, 2010 at 11AM in St Theresa's Catholic Church in Harvard, MA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Ayer Masonic Association Widows Fund, P.O.
