Dorothy (Pugatch) Trefler Obituary
TREFLER, Dorothy (Pugatch) 82, of Chestnut Hill, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2011, surrounded by her children Alan and Leon; her grandchildren, Sam and David; and her daughter-in-law, Pam. Until suffering a heart attack last week, she was vibrant and deeply engaged in the lives of her family and friends. A daughter of Russian immigrants, she believed fervently in the importance of education and hard work. She held an undergraduate degree from Boston University and a Master's Degree in Education from the University of Massachusetts. After several years teaching in the Boston schools, Dorothy entered the family business, Trefler & Sons Restoration Studio. There she worked with her beloved husband Eric, and continued managing it after his passing until her retirement. She also provided the seed financing for her son Alan to found technology leader Pegasystems and took joy in seeing her children work together when Leon joined that business. She actively supported Pegasystems' growth through a series of "Mother Trefler" YouTube videos which showcased her wit, energy, and forceful personality. She is remembered for her energy, generosity, kindness, and devotion to family and friends.
