O'Brien, Gerard "Jerry"
Of Bourne died September 21 after a long battle with heart failure. He was 56. Co-founder of Werc-2/Eco-Tac, an alternative solid fuel company and co-owner of two related patents, Mr. O'Brien's remarkable intellect was only surpassed by his creative wit and energies. Founder of several construction and telecommunication companies, Mr. O'Brien's work took him throughout the nation and the world. He had a special love of Ireland, and traveled there frequently on business and personal trips. To say Jerry O'Brien was a friend of Erie is to say the St. Patrick had Irish roots. A portion of his ashes will be spread in early November in Dublin, in the river Liffey on the way out to the Irish Sea. Born in Waltham and raised in Waltham and Weston, he was graduated from Weston High School and Assumption College in Worcester. Mr. O'Brien is survived by his wife Joyce Lorman of Bourne, and his best friend, his dog, Boru. He also is survived by his mother, Joan O'Brien; father, Gerard O'Brien; sisters Maureen Leddy and Kathleen Rufo; nieces and nephews Caitlyn, Kevin and Connor Leddy, and Elizabeth and Mary Rufo. A Memorial Service is planned for Saturday at St. Peter's Church, 165 Main St., Buzzards Bay at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Mass General CRT Research Fund for cardiac research. Donations to the research fund can be mailed to Dr. Kimberly Parks at MGH Development Office, 165 Cambridge St, Suite 600, Boston, MA 02114.
