DR. LAWRENCE P. CREEDON

Obituary

CREEDON, Dr. Lawrence P. 80, of Falmouth MA, passed away suddenly while teaching in Guadalajara, Mexico on September 27, 2012. He received his Ed. D. in Philosophical Foundations of Education at Boston University. His first teaching assignment was as a U.S. Naval officer assigned to the National Security Agency in Washington, DC., during the Korean conflict. Shortly after, Larry began his public school career in Quincy, MA. In 1969 he was appointed the Superintendent of the Quincy Public Schools. He also served two one-year terms as president of Quincy Junior College (Quincy College). During his 15-year tenure as superintendent of schools, both the Association for American School Counselors and the Association of National School Boards honored him for his work. In the early 50s, Dr. Creedon co-founded the Quincy Youth Football League. In 1972, he co-founded Survival, Inc. in Quincy, MA, and served as the first layman appointed to the Roman Catholic Archdiocesan School Board. He was most proud of founding the Quincy Teen Mother Program, which was designed to help teen mothers attend school while also caring for their children, and was a first of its kind in Massachusetts. Since 1998, Larry has been affiliated with the Cedrone Institute for International Education at Framingham State University where he facilitated teacher education courses in over 40 countries. Larry is survived by his companion Helen Ross, of Falmouth, a son Paul (Deborah), of Holden, MA his daughter Andrea Burnes, of Falmouth, four brothers, John, Joe, Eugene and Bernard, and his six grandchildren, Benjamin, Timothy, Jonathon, Meaghan, Richard and Hillary. Brother of the late Frances Clancy. Visiting hours will be held on Friday, October 5, from 4 to 7PM in the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 475 Main Street, FALMOUTH CENTER. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday at 9:00 am in St Thomas Chapel, 30 Deacons Ave, Falmouth Heights. Burial will follow in Mt Wollaston Cemetery, 20 Sea Street, Quincy, MA.
