GEORGE A. BURNS Jr. Obituary
BURNS, George A., Jr. 83, of Andover, passed peacefully at home on October 28, 2012. The son of the late George A., Sr., and Ella Mae (Griffiths) Burns, George was born in Medford on August 13, 1929. At age 17, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp and after discharge; he embarked upon a career in sales. He was a longtime affiliate of the Malden YMCA Early Bird Fitness Program, a consummate gardener, and a skilled woodworker. He took pride in his home, which he designed and built, as well as many wooden pieces he created for members of his family. George is survived by his loving wife, Karen J. (Swenson) Burns; his children, Lauren P. (Burns) Salsman of Lynn, Donna M. (Burns) Rice of Marblehead, Edward A. Ratyna, Jr. of Andover, and Robin (Ratyna) Pike of Rhode Island; his grandchildren, Eric Salsman, Adam Salsman, and Corey Rice. He is also survived by his sister, Barbara (Burns) Dyment and her husband Harvey of Venice, FL , his brother in law and sister in law, Jon and Janice (Colburn) Swenson of Collegeville, PA; as well as many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. A memorial service will be held at Christ Church, 25 Central Street, Andover on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at 11:00am.
