ALICE (LEITZ) LIEBMAN

Obituary Condolences

Liebman, (Leitz) Alice
Died at the Newton Wellesley Hospital on April 17th, two weeks before her 92nd birthday. Mrs. Liebman, a long time resident of Newton, was born in Baltimore. She graduated from Wellesley College and received a masters in education from Harvard University. Her husband of 61 one years, Dr. Sumner Liebman, passed away in 2003. For many years Alice was a fifth grade teacher at the Oak Hill School in Newton. She then worked in a special education program in West Newton. After retiring, she worked for several years at Brandeis University's alumni office. An avid reader, bird watcher, tennis player, bridge player, and traveler, Alice remained curious about everything. In retirement, she and her husband audited many university courses. Alice not only wanted to increase her knowledge in different fields but loved talking with the students. It was through these contacts, she said, that she kept up to date with the thoughts of the college age generation. Alice was a sharp political analyst. Her daughter, Frederika, who lives in Sweden, often called home to hear her mother's views on current political events. Alice was a very social person. She made many new friends and retained her old friends through out her life. Frederika says that the telephone was always ringing. Alice spent her last months of life at The Falls at Cordingly Dam. In addition to Frederika, Alice leaves two grandchildren, two great grandchildren and her much loved son-in law Anthony, husband of many years of her deceased daughter, Eleanor. A memorial gathering will be held at The Falls on Sunday, April 28 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.
