Obituary Condolences

HURLEY, Arthur J., Jr. Of Lexington, was called home to God on July 11th, 2013. AJ, a WW II veteran, was a member of the 82nd Airborne Division drafted out of Cranwell Preparatory School in Lenox, Mass. He served in the European sector until V-E Day May 7, 1945. When his division returned to the U.S., he was selected for the Honor Guard at the Victory Parade in New York City. Upon returning to Boston, he attended Bentley and joined the family business, The Arthur J. Hurley Co. Inc., distributors of electrical wire and cable. The company was founded by his parents in 1929. In the years that followed, AJ's leadership, dedication, knowledge and vision brought success and growth to the company. AJ was best known for his good and generous heart, his keen sense of humor, his love of cooking and travel. His devotion to his family was monumental. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Marybeth, sons Arthur III and Matthew and daughters, Janne, Jill, Marisa and Lara. Also remembered by daughters in-law Mary Drozda and Joan Kellar and sons in-law Michael Clare and Michael McSweeny. He is survived by his grandchildren Alexander Clare, Casey Hurley and Olivia and Lucas McSweeny. AJ's brother Richard and beloved son Drew preceded him to the hereafter. He is remembered by Richard's widow Sheila and Drew's widow Christine as well as nieces Meghan and Paddi Hurley. AJ was a member and past president of the University Club of Boston. During his tenure as president, a scholarship fund to benefit Boston High School graduates was established. Visitation at Douglass Funeral Home, 51 Worthen Road, Lexington on Monday, July 15, 2013 4-8pm. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at Saint Brigid Church, Lexington on Tuesday, July 16 at 10:00am.
