Obituary Condolences

Barron, Leon
Age 96, died June 15 in Irving, Texas. A charming non-conformist and inventive auto-didact, Leo never stopped reading and learning, keeping on top of current affairs, retaining his intelligence and wit to the end. Born in Brooklyn NY, he moved to Boston as a young child, attending Dorchester schools, and hitting the hobo rails in the Southwest during the Depression. He served in the Army in World War II, stationed in Normandy, France, and returned to Boston to an advertising career, managing production for such firms as The Bresnick Co. and Arnold & Co. He met Rita Barron at The River House in Beacon Hill and married in 1955. They moved to Newton in 1958 where they raised two children and resided until 2006 when they moved to Texas. A nuclear family man, he enjoyed world travel, Red Sox baseball, attending college classes in his 70s, and learning to watercolor in his 80s. His wife Rita, whom he remembered as the most honest person he'd ever met, died in August 2012. They are survived by daughter Heidi of Silver Spring MD and son Leland of Irving TX, who miss them very much. No services are planned.
