EDMUND ROBERT SEWELL Obituary
Sewell, Edmund Robert
Passed away on September 1st, 2013 in Grass Valley, California from complications resulting from his battle with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Edmund was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts on January 26th, 1929, the son of Dolores and Roy Edmund Sewell. He served proudly in the US Marine Corps for 26 years including 2 tours of duty in Vietnam and retired as a Sergeant Major in 1972. After retiring from the Marines, he went on to a second career with the Oceanside Unified School District from which he retired as Head Groundskeeper in 1991. While in the Marines and serving at the US Embassy in the Philippines, he met and married Dorothy Louise Gearin. They were happily married for 57 years until Dottie, as she was known by everyone, passed away in 2011. Edmund is survived by his brother, Andrew Nelson and his wife, Phyllis, of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, his two sons, Jeffery Mark Sewell and Stephen Roy Sewell and his daughter-in-law, Stephen's wife, Laura Vanderpool (as well as his beloved cat, Molly Sewell). A memorial service including full military honors will take place at Eternal Hills in Oceanside, CA, on Friday, October 4th at 10:30AM. Immediately afterward, a celebration of his life will take place at the Oceanside Elks Lodge. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Elks Club or your local VFW.
