HERBERT S. STERN Obituary
STERN, Herbert S. Of East Falmouth, age 92; October 27, 2013. Well known Boston Advertising Agency executive for 40 years before retirement. President of Gabriel Stern, Inc., Stern/Frank Advertising and H. Stern, Inc. formerly of Newton and Boston and for the past 39 years a resident of Falmouthport in East Falmouth, Ma. Born in Boston, April 27, 1921, the son of Gabriel and Celia Stern. A founder and past president of Falmouth Jewish Congregation. He was honored to sound the Shofar for 15 years during the Jewish High Holidays. Herb served as Falmouth Town Meeting Member, Assistant Town Harbormaster and on the Tri-Centennial Committee. He was a Corporator of the Falmouth Hospital and originated the Isnt Falmouth Nice? program for the Chamber of Commerce, for which he received their Recognition Award. He was a founder and Treasurer of F.A.C.E.S. and served for 12 years as a Director and Treasurer of Whitney Beach III Association on Longboat Key, Florida. He was particularly proud of serving 30 years as Treasurer of Falmouthport Condominium Trust. He also served for 24 years as a Trustee of Temple Ohabei Shalom, Brookline and President of the Brotherhood. A graduate of Boston Latin School, Class of 39 and Boston University School of Management, he served as a Trustee of BLS Association and small Business Association of America. A boating and sailing enthusiast, he enjoyed sailing the Bahamas, Virgin Islands and the coast of Maine. He enjoyed tennis, playing until he was 88. A Lt. in the US Navy during World War II, including a 2 year tour of duty in the South Pacific as a Captain of Air-Sea Rescue Vessels. Married 39 years to the late Ina Axelrod of Brookline, and 22 years previously to Irene Baker of Brighton. He leaves a son, Paul Stern, a Prosecuting Attorney in Everett, Washington. He also leaves his companion Ethel DeLoria. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 31st at 11:00 Am at Falmouth Jewish Congregation, 7 Hatchville Rd., East Falmouth, MA.
