TAYLOR, Edith At home in Waltham, on November 4, 2013, Edith Elaine (Parker) Taylor, formerly of Chestnut Hill, Newton Centre, and Needham, at age 89. She was the wife of the late Arthur J. Taylor. Born July 9, 1924 in Boston, Edith was the only child of Melvin H. Parker and Doris E. (Mowry) Parker. She grew up in Brookline and graduated from Brookline High School in 1942. She attended Wheelock College and worked as a nursery school teacher in the early 1940s.She met her husband at a Tufts College basketball game in January 1940. They were married in December 1944, at Sacred Heart Church in Newton Centre, after his return from being overseas with the Navy. The couple began raising their family in Natick, before moving to Chestnut Hill in 1955. Mr. Taylor died in 1988. Mrs. Taylor was a long-time member of Kappa Sigma Phi sorority of Brookline High School, the Newton Centre Women's Club (treasurer), the Lucy Jackson chapter of the OAR (past regent), and a forever book club. She was an avid reader and dogged compiler and steward of her family history. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and sewing projects and collecting recipes. Mrs. Taylor is survived by her 5 children, 10 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. Services were private and burial was at Newton Cemetery.
