1923 - 2013 | Obituary Condolences
PORTER, Mr. Raymond F. 90, of Lake Wales, Florida, formerly of Reading and Yarmouthport, passed away on December 14, 2013. Born in Revere on June 30, 1923, Ray was raised in Medford. A 1942 graduate of Medford High School, Ray served in the Army infantry during World War II and was part of the D-Day invasion landing on Utah Beach. He was wounded on July 16, 1944 in France and was a Purple Heart recipient. Ray married the former Norma Cashman on November 27, 1949 at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Medford. Ray and Norma raised their family in Reading where Ray spent many years as a parcel post letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Harvard Square in Cambridge. He and Norma also had a thriving landscaping business that they ran together. Ray and Norma retired to Yarmouthport on Cape Cod in 1976. They wintered in Florida for thirty years, relocating to central Florida in 2004. Ray lost his beloved Norma in 2009. He is survived by his three children, Linda Porter Kiley (Thomas) of Medfield, Raymond F. Porter, Jr. (Danielle Dion) of Magog, Quebec, and Janet Porter Walker (Blake) of Burke, VA, seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and many relatives and friends. Services with Military Honors are Friday, December 20, 2013, at the Johnson Funeral Home. Interment will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2014, at 11:00 A.M. at Forest Glen Cemetery in Reading.
