HENRY VARIAN Obituary
VARIAN, Henry Beloved husband of Miriam, (for 33 years.) Father of Aoife and grandfather of Colum, passed away unexpectedly April 10th, 2014. As an immigrant from Cork City, Ireland, Henry, like many of his countrymen and women, came to the U.S. (Boston) in the 1960s. Being an accomplished musician who played several instruments, Henry became well known in the music circles of Boston and he started the Sound of Eirn Radio Programme. He contributed greatly to the rich collection of traditional Irish music in the Boston area over the years. Together with his brothers Liam & Jimmy, Henry opened the Irish Coach House which became one of the most successful Irish Pub/Restaurants in Boston. During the day, Henry perfected the art of Stone Masonary and in due course, became a master of his craft. Henry also formed the Irish Drama group where he acted in many Irish productions and where he met and later married the love of his life, Miriam. One of his many joys was the birth of his daughter Aoife, and more recently, the birth of his grandson, Colum. In 1994 Henry took his family to their new home in Nantucket. Within a short time, they became an integral part of the local community with Henry becoming a familiar face in the various coffee houses. Being a natural communicator Henry was always willing to share his words of wisdom with others. Even after the briefest conversations with Henry, one felt enriched by the sharing. Henry loved Nantucket and contributed his gifts and talents to help create and maintain the beautiful buildings here on the island. He always felt the warmth of Nantucket as familiar as the warmth he experienced in his native Cork. Henry was a humble spirit, a gentle soul and would do a good turn for anyone. Above all else, Henrys family always came first: his beloved wife Miriam, his beautiful daughter Aoife, and in recent years, the joy of his life, Colum. Ar Dheis De go raibh a Anam Dilis. Visiting hours will be from 2:00 TO 5:00 PM on Tuesday, April 15th at St. Marys Church, 3 Federal St., Nantucket. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Wednesday, April 16th at St. Marys. Burial is private. For on-line guest book, please visit www.johnlawrencefuneralhome.com
