WILLIAM A. MACNEILL Obituary
MacNEILL, William A. 84, of Scituate, died May 27, 2014, surrounded by his loving family. Beloved husband of 41 years to Carol A. (Lawson Hart) MacNeill, pre-deceased by first wife Bridget (Riordan) and son Peter MacNeill. Loving father of Maura and her husband James Hilliard of Florida, Bridget of Florida, Adrienne (Mindy) and her husband Steve Boudreau of Andover, Andrew and his wife Elizabeth Tiley of Northampton, Lisa Prince of Bourne, Joan and Dan Fratkin of New Hampshire, Linda Giovannucci and her husband Anthony of Scituate, John and his wife Molly of Scituate, Larry of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Cherished Ging to his grand-children Caroline, Madeline, Fiona, Bridget, Conor, Kyle, Emma, Cade, Lillie, Carleigh, and his treasured Bichon Lexus. He is also survived by his sisters Barbara Cataldo of Norwood, Sally Petrucci and her husband Louis of Norwood, Micki Scarlata and her husband Anthony (Scal) of Westwood, and Edna Gately of Randolph. Bill served at BC High for 35 years as a teacher, coach and administrator. He retired as Vice President for Development of Boston College High School where he established the BC High Development Program. Among his achievements during his tenure were the Star Complex/Viola Stadium which gave the school its first home fields since 1918, the McNeice Pavillion, a 40,000 square foot all-purpose facility, and the Magis Guild, an important funding source for the school. In collaboration with Rev. Francis Mahoney, S.J. he created a vibrant alumni structure and program involving the several thousand BC High graduates throughout the world. He was the founder and President of the New England Association of Catholic Development Officers (NEACDO now ACAAP). This all volunteer organization has served Catholic schools for over 30 years, providing conferences, workshops, and other forms of support. After his retirement from BC High in 1991 he acted as a consultant to Catholic Schools and institutions throughout the country, including 7 years as Director of Development for the Catholic Schools of West Virginia. He was an instructor in the Catholic Leadership Program at Boston College as well as the graduate education programs at both Emmanuel College in Boston and Loyola College in Baltimore. He was also a Senior Partner of Partners in Mission, a national school consulting organization. He was honored by the National Catholic Education Association for his outstanding leadership in the field of development. A noted track coach at BC High and Boston College, he is a member of the BC High Athletic Hall of Fame. This year at BC High, Bill was presented with the prestigious Shields Medal. The Shields Medal honors character and service and is an award bestowed on a member of the BC High community who, though not an alumnus, has come to recognize and then commit himself to the powerful experience BC High offers. A native of Roxbury, he resided in Scituate for over 50 years. A veteran of World War II and Korea, he served in Europe and Korea. After his service, he returned to Boston College where he graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1956 continuing on to receive his advanced degree from Boston College in 1959. He was a past Commodore of the Scituate Harbor Yacht Club. Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours from McNamara/Sparrell Funeral Home, 1 Summer St, Cohasset, MA from 4PM to 8PM on Sunday, June 1st 2014. A Mass of Christian Burial commemorating Bills life will be held on Monday June 2nd, 2014 at 10 AM at St. Anthonys Church, 10 Summer St, Cohasset, MA. For the first time in 84 years, Bill promises not to be late. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the William A.
